A Cleaner House Faster:
Send dirt & gunk packing with tips your mother will steal!
We all love a spotless home – but with hectic workdays and kids’ extracurricular activities, it’s tough to dedicate much time to cleaning. These tried & true methods for a cleaner house will make chores easier, more effective and grant you more time do the things you actually want to do.
Turn up your favorite music (or podcast) and start upstairs. Work your way downstairs with this guide in hand; you’ll be finished before you know it.
Grab Your Tools.
A handful of essentials are all you need to make your house sparkle:
- A Scrigit™ Scraper or two
- Glass cleaner
- Eraser or blue non-scratch Scrubber Sponges
- Vinegar
- Hydrogen peroxide
- Mineral & lemon oil
- Bathroom cleaner
- Microfiber cloths or washed old cotton T-shirts
Do Your Prep Work.
For a visibly cleaner house, clear the clutter first! The emptier your counters, tables and floor space, the cleaner your home will feel. Briefly scan each room to see what’s out of place. Stash remotes and toys in drawers, stack magazines on the coffee table or in a magazine rack, and put your dry dishes away.
Don’t forget one of the most important prep tasks – spritz all sinks, counters, showers and tubs with your bathroom cleaner. It can start its work without you!
Get to Business.
Using a dry microfiber cloth, such as a VibraWipe, or old cotton T-shirt (washed and dried without fabric softener), start with a piece of furniture in the corner of each room, working clockwise. Dust each surface (lifting any remaining knickknacks as you go) and dump the dust onto the floor. It’s all in the details here, so wrap your Scrigit™ Scraper in the cloth to reach into corners and furniture groves.
Pro Tip: Avoid smudges while dusting by only touching each part of the surface once – no constant back-and-forth.
Notice hard-to-remove gunk on your stove or countertop? It stands no chance against your Scrigit™ Scraper, without fear of damaging surfaces. Finish off the area with your dampened eraser or blue scrubber sponge to tackle remaining unwanted stains and grime.
Fun fact: Your kitchen sink has more bacteria than your toilet seat. To disinfect, scrub your sink with soap and water first, then mist with vinegar. Follow that with a misting of hydrogen peroxide and let air-dry. (Don’t mix the vinegar and hydrogen peroxide together- the trick is to spray one after the other.) If your sink is stainless steel, make it gleam by putting a few drops of mineral oil on a cloth and buff. This prevents water buildup, which keeps the sink looking brilliant even longer.
Fine Tune The Details.
Grab your Scrigit™ Scraper for those hard-to-reach soap and mixed grime buildups around all bathroom fixtures, toilet and drains. Then, following your circular-pattern, start in one corner and wipe the counter, vanity, fixtures and handles with the micro-fiber or cotton cloth.
To make glass surfaces shine, spray a fresh cloth with your glass cleaner and wipe in wide circular motions, working from one back corner to the front. You can fight water stains on glass shower doors by buffing with a teaspoon of lemon oil twice a month – the water will simply bead up & roll off.
Finish if off with a thorough vacuuming and mopping – you can call this project a wrap!
And there you have it, the ultimate cleaner house guide to getting the chores you hate most done as efficiently as possible. Because who wants to waste an entire day cleaning their house when you can be out having fun with your family instead?
